Positive reaction on the streets to Queen's visit
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will come to Bermuda next Tuesday for a three-day visit in celebration of the Island's 400th anniversary.
The Royal Gazette has talked to people to find out what they think of the visit and found the overwhelming majority of people questioned held a positive view on the Royal couple and their visit.
Deondre Cumberbatch, a 23 year-old journalism student from Warwick said: "I am excited and I plan on going to see them while they are in St. George's.
"I have seen her in London driving around in her car but it will be nice to actually see her in person."
Dekan Saunders, a 15 year-old Berkeley student said: "I think it (the Royal Visit) is important for Bermuda."
Another Berkeley student, Johnae Tucker, 15, is looking forward to seeing Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh.
"It is exciting that we will be able to see her in person rather than just pictures," said Johnae Tucker, 15.
"I am very excited," said Deborah Outerbridge from Smiths. "I will try and see the Queen at both the Cathedral and Dockyard.
"I still have a picture of myself from her visit in the 1970's when my school, BHS, took us to see her at City Hall."
A man who would only give his first name as Mark said that he thinks the attention that Bermuda will receive from the Royal visit is a positive thing.
"I definitely feel that the Royal visit will be a good thing for the country especially as far as international recognition is concerned."
Pembroke resident Andrew Holmes, 29, said: "It is great for Bermuda. I am glad that they are coming. We need to strengthen our alliance with the UK in my opinion."
Sandys resident, Mr. Sinclair, would not give his first name but said he sees the Royal visit as a good thing.
"I think that it is a positive thing for Bermuda that the Queen and Prince Philip are coming," said Mr. Sinclair.
"I hope they enjoy their visit and I hope Bermuda enjoys seeing them."
Richard Powell, of Bermuda Breads, is excited for the Royal visit.
"The visit will be a good thing," said Mr. Powell. "I saw the Queen on one of her visits when I was a child and I suppose it is about time that I see her again."
Ruth Cassidy, from Pembroke, said she was very excited to see the Queen again.
"I saw the Queen and her sister when they came to Bermuda as children," she said.
"That was way before she became Queen. I was still in school at the time and we watched them as they drove through Cedar Avenue."
Only one person who spoke to The Royal Gazette was not looking forward to seeing the Royal party.
"No, I am not that excited about the Royal visit," said Christina Ingham. "I do not plan on going to see them."
Hamilton Town Crier, Ed Christopher is not sure what he will be doing for the Royal Visit but said he is excited about seeing the Queen and Prince Philip.
"It is great that the Queen is coming," he said. "She should come more often."
