New Jersey twins fined for fighting
A New Jersey man was fined $200 and ordered to pay $314 to replace a set of electronic car keys after he and his twin brother pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm on an off-duty Police officer and another man. passenger Craig Lucchetto, 19, denied stealing the keys, saying the confrontation at 2.30 a.m. on the North Arm of King's Wharf, Ireland Island North on Wednesday was so heated his only concern was getting away.
Craig and Eric Lucchetto were part of a group of men who Police believe were blocking traffic when the off-duty officer asked to be allowed to pass.
The group became hostile and surrounded the car ? a convertible ? and a scuffle ensued when the the two local men got out.
The policeman's cousin ? a 26-year-old from St. George's ? was punched in the face and forced over an embankment and into the North Basin.
The cop was also forced overboard and when they tried to get out, they were pushed back in. In his statement, the policeman said he heard: "Get the keys! Get the keys, thrown them in the f***ing water!"
Craig Lucchetto admitted to taking the keys out of the open car and throwing them away ? but said this was because he was afraid they would be chased down eventually.
He told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner: "I didn't intend on stealing any keys", he said, "if anything, they're still in the water right now."
The group of men then left the area on foot. The off duty Police officer sustained grazing to his right elbow while his cousin sustained cuts to his nose and left hand as a result.
Eric Lucchetto said: "I kept telling them, we're on a cruise ship now, we don't want to start any problems. I would never, ever start a fight or get in any altercation with a police officer. I know I could've easily walked away too but I was trying to break up the situation."
The twins were each fined $200 or 20 days in prison in default for causing bodily harm. Craig Lucchetto was not given a separate penalty for stealing the keys.
