Five local ladies will be kicking up their heels and two-stepping into millions of homes.

Donna Amaral and Carla Kaufman of Smith's, Sharon Johnson of Southampton, Ann Johnson of Devonshire and Lynn Lalone of Warwick will be twirling into Tennessee next week for a little good 'ol "Western'' hospitality.

The group will be performing on the country show Club Dance, seen here on Cable 31.

"On November 19 and 20 we will tape the show,'' explained Mrs. Amaral. "We will perform as a group for one show and we will be on another shows in the background.'' The group expects their taped appearance to be broadcasted sometime in January.

It was a friend of the five-some that suggested that the group appear on the show.

Said Mrs. Amaral. "She told us about it and we decided to vacation in Tennessee and appear on the show.'' The ladies have been dancing together for years as the Country Steppers and regularly attend country line dancing, held Monday nights at the Mariners Club.

And for their television debut, the group will be performing an original number choreographed by Mrs. Kaufman called "Shuffle With an Attitude''.

"I was watching the Country Music Channel and I just started playing around,'' said Mrs. Kaufman. "It only took about 20 minutes to put together.

I just used some of our favourite steps.

"Everyone thinks that line dancing is square dancing, but it is not.'' Miss Johnson said the group had been putting in long hours to perfect their number.

"We have been doing it every night for weeks,'' said Miss Johnson. " We are going the dance to Shania Twain's `Man I Feel Like A Woman'.'' And the ladies will be sporting special `Bermuda' inspired country wear for their television debut.

"We are getting a logo done up with a map of Bermuda and cowboy boots on it and it will say Country Hot Steppers,'' explained Mrs. Lalone. "We will have them printed on the back of scarfs. That way we can put them on with any outfit.'' Mrs. Amaral added, "It will be great exposure for the Island. The officials are excited to have a group from Bermuda on the show. They have had groups from Europe, but not from Bermuda or anywhere in the Caribbean.'' And the ladies are contemplating taking their act on the road in the future.

"Next year we want do a cruise,'' they pointed out. "We love to dance and we have a lot of fun doing it.''
