Events for 2009
The quadricentennial festivities will run for a full year, kicking off on New Year's Eve 2008.
Among the highlights currently in the planning stages are:
The Agricultural Show in April 2009 will feature historical re-enactments and displays.
In June, Bermuda will host the sail training race Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009.
July 28 will see an historical re-enactment of the wreck of the Sea Venture. The Spirit of Bermuda sloop will take people out to the wreck site to honour her loss, and fireworks will blast off across the Island that night.
Expanded celebrations are planned for Emancipation Day and Somers Day in August.
An international military tattoo organised by the Bermuda Regiment will run from October 22-24.
A November gala will celebrate "the best of Bermuda."
Themed exhibits will feature at the Maritime Museum.
A Portuguese festival will celebrate the contributions of that community.
The Department of Parks will unveil a new museum celebrating 400 years of agriculture.
A modern theatrical interpretation of Shakespeare's The Tempest will be held. The play is believed to have been inspired by the tale of the Sea Venture.
The St. George's Historical Society will open the St. George's Heritage Centre.
Captain Dwight Robinson of the Bermuda Regiment will compose a special fanfare to be played at all the events.
