Man beaten with golf club

The assault was alleged to have taken place at 2.15 a.m. yesterday morning outside the Universal Barber Shop on Court Street.

A 36-year-old Pembroke man told Police that he and a friend were at Rooster's Restaurant when they were approached by three men.

One of the men apparently assaulted the victim with a golf club, while the other two attacked his friend.

The friend -- a 38-year-old Hamilton Parish man -- was able to escape to the Hamilton Police Station, and raise the alarm .

The victim was found outside St. Paul AME Church with a laceration to his left eye and was bleeding heavily from a wound to the nose.

He was conveyed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment, where he is being detained.

Police have been able to speak to witnesses to the incident, and are making inquiries.

And the Sea Bird was towed back to Coney Island by a friend of the owner after her engine belt snapped off Ferry Reach pylons at 7.15 p.m. on Saturday.

Meanwhile, a Police marine rescue boat was sent to check a fishing boat after a member of the public suspected the vessel was sending a distress signal off Church Bay on Saturday evening.

A Harbour Radio spokesman said the man must have thought the boat was signalling for help when in fact its deck lights had merely been bobbing up and down in the waves.

SEARCH LAUNCHED FOR MISSING SAILOR RES Search launched for missing sailor A report of a man overboard was issued yesterday morning by Bermuda Harbour Radio.

The merchant vessel Therassia reported the man missing some 460 miles southeast of the Island but could not specify when exactly the incident might have taken place.

Bermuda Harbour Radio along with the US Coast Guard issued urgent broadcasts to all ships to keep a sharp lookout for the missing man in an effort to find him.
