Boulevard book their place in the next round
Boulevard 2
St. George's Colts 0
Boulevard move on to play Young Men's Social Club in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup as they out-muscled St. George's Colts in their replay at Devonshire Rec. last night.
It only took Boulevard two minutes to let their intentions be known as inspirational midfielder Melchesidec Gibbons missed his shot by whiskers at the far post.
This was one of many gilt-edged chances that went begging for the Blazers as their constant bombardment of the St. George's goal went without reward.
That was until the 26th minute when Gibbons sent Blazers ahead in a flowing move.
It was lovely off the ball movement that led to the goal as Boulevard moved the ball from side to side, probing the St. George's back-line.
Angelo Simmons started the play, passing wide to Ray Burgess, Gibbons then had a direct run onto a through ball and put his shot inside keeper Troy Hall's near post.
Blazers deserved their advantage as Colts had relied upon kick and run football and managed only one shot during the first-half.
Gibbons and Burgess were later subbed as injuries took their toll, Gibbons the victim of a horrendous tackle.
Hall kept his team in the game making countless saves to thwart raid after raid on his goal, and St. George's had a way back into the match only for Neil Paynter to smack the post.
But in the end he could do nothing about the second goal with individual brilliance by all players' involved produced eye catching football.
Tekhyi Walker beat his defender numerous times to the delight of the Blazers fans.
And with only Hall to beat he unselfishly laid the ball off to his colleague Chae Simmons to tap in.
For all their determination and enthusiasm St. George's could have had a say in the game but never seemed to show up on the day.
