Hall and Dhammika rescue St. George's

Troy Hall (70) and Upul Dhammika (26) carried St. George?s to a comfortable six wicket victory over Leg Trappers at Sea Breeze Oval yesterday via an unbroken 88-run fifth wicket partnership.

The pair came together with St.George?s wobbling in their reply at 38 for four.

However, with Hall blasting away at one end and Sri Lankan import Dhammika providing the perfect foil at the other, St.George?s recovered and went on to put a damper on their opponent?s league title hopes while helping ease some of the emotional pain inflicted by the recent death of former club spinner Travis Smith.

Hall?s unbeaten 68 ball knock contained 11 fours and two sixes in 83 minutes, while Dhammika?s runs came off 51 balls and included five fours.

Bermuda Cricket Board executive Marc Wetherhill led the Leg Trappers bowling with two for 24 while Yoham Oosthuized had one for 32.

Earlier Oostuized topped the home team?s batting with 20 off 27 balls while Graham Strange added 19.

Hall capped off a superb all round inspiring performance by seizing three wickets for 19 runs to lead the St.George?s attack, while fellow seamer Wilbur Burt took two for 13 and the returning Eugene (Calabash) Foggo ? making his first appearance of the season ? two for 15.

St.George?s Cup Match hopeful Kevin Shiell struck 78 and Dennis Musson jr claimed three wickets for 32 runs to lead Cleveland County to a 20-run victory over Devonshire Rec. at Wellington Oval in First Division play.

Batting first Cleveland struggled until Shiell unleashed his assault on the bowling, finishing with ten fours and a six. Others among the runs were acting skipper Clay Smith on 17, Musson 16 and Charles Richardson 13.

Jodi Maronie was the chief wicket taker with four for 31 off ten overs with four maidens while Dennis Williams claimed two for 13 off 8.3 overs with three maidens. Lamont Brangman took two for 47 off ten overs.

In reply, Devonshire struggled with just four batsmen in double figures. Allan Butterfield led the way with 25 while Dean Stephens struck 15, Derrick Brangman 11 and Maronie 10 not out.

Joining Musson in the wicket haul for Cleveland were Charles Richardson with two for 12 off 5.2 overs and two maidens and Shakai Darrell two for 28 off five overs.

Denzil Dill produced an outstanding all round performance for Somerset Bridge at Somerset Cricket Club yesterday.

Yet it still wasn?t enough to prevent Willow Cuts from recording a five-wicket triumph in what proved to be a prelude to next month?s third round of the Western Counties competition.

Dill topped the Bridge batting with 40 as they piled up an impressive 248 runs. And then returned with the ball to claim two wickets for 42 runs.

Bergon Spencer and Kevin Lapsley each took two wickets.

In form opener Ryane Sheppard blasted 78 runs to lead Cuts? run chase while veteran batsman Dexter Basden 68, all rounder Sheroy Fubler 46 and tailender Charles Swan 21.

Meanwhile, the remaining First Division match between PHC and Police at White Hill Field did not get underway after Police showed up with only five men.
