Seven new faces in the PLP executive team

The PLP ushered in a host of new faces to run the party at this week's delegates' conference — many of them in their 20s and 30s.

Seven new officers were elected to the party's 12-strong executive team: Anthony Richardson, Michael-Jay Landy, Owen Darrell, Dionne Burrows, Kim Lightbourne, Nataya DeSilva and Quanita Francis.

They join re-elected chairman Anthony Santucci and returning members Jamaine Smith, Selena Fields, Curtis Williams and Makai Dickerson.

Mr. Santucci told The Royal Gazette last night: "It's definitely a diverse group. I think it's probably a good mix of male and female. There are definitely a lot of new faces. I'm just happy to have been reelected and am looking forward to doing the people's business."

Mr. Dickerson, 28, who was re-elected as assistant organiser for the West, said there was a "great deal of young blood" in the new party leadership.

"I'm very encouraged at the number of young people who were put forward [for executive positions]," he said. "It brings a sense of fresh blood and new ideas, combined with the experience that already sits on the executive. It brings the best of both worlds."

He said the delegates at this week's conference represented a mix of ages. "The younger people spoke up and gave their views, as did the more mature members."

Mr. Williams, 34, the party's new public relations officer, agreed. He said plenty of young party members spoke at the conference.

"I noticed that the spread of the age amongst the delegates was a mix of old and younger involved in the process."

Of the new executive team, the former assistant party organiser said: "We are energised and ready to get to work. I think it's a balance of experienced and new blood."

The new deputy chairman of the party is Ms Lightbourne. The other post holders are: Ms Smith — secretary general; Ms Fields — assistant secretary general; Mr. Richardson — treasurer; Ms DeSilva — assistant treasurer; Mr. Landy — membership secretary; Mr. Darrell — party organiser; Ms Francis — assistant organiser for the East; and Ms Burrows — assistant organiser for the central region.
