Compelled to respond

December 10,2012Dear Sir,I feel obliged to respond to Don McKenzie’s opinion in today’s Royal Gazette. In that piece he stated that he has known Vince Ingham for a number of years and he used to have great respect for him. Apparently he no longer respects Sen Ingham. He goes on to cloak himself with the authority to speak on behalf of black and white businessmen (he is a former Board member of the Employer’s Council. He interprets the PLP’s message as “in order to be a successful black person you have to be a surrogate of the white elite or be sponsored or protected. by the PLP”.He then determines that it is nonsense, derogatory and insulting to all of the successful black business people and colleagues that he admires (did he poll them or is he a current Board member of the Successful Black Businessmen’s Council?) He deceptively fails to mention that the “black surrogate” reference was lifted from a UBP document that Michael Dunkley found embarrassing in 2007.He says PLP supporters are hurting and reaching out to Government to ask why they are unemployed and have not seen the benefit of billions of dollars of Government spending .. I guess they asked the “Don“ to be their advocate. I marvel that the businesses that do well attribute their success to prudent fiscal management, while their unsuccessful counterparts attribute their failure to anti-business Government policies. In the closing paragraph, Mr McKenzie asserts that the PLP relies solely on outdated and divisive rhetoric to win elections.. From the inception the PLP has been inclusive but the whites who were ideologically aligned became economic and social victims.OBSERVERSandys
