Lawyer to see Police about defamatory letters about school board members
An investigation could be launched by Police into defamatory letters that have been circulated containing allegations about CedarBridge Academy board members.
Two letters were delivered to this newspaper with claims made about board Chairman George Scott, deputy chairman Lovitta Foggo and board member Linda Franks. The contents of the letters are defamatory and cannot be published for legal reasons. Phil Perinchief, lawyer for Mr. Scott, Ms Foggo and Ms Franks, said he was to meet with Police officers yesterday to determine if those responsible for the letters could be prosecuted.
Asked if his clients were willing to comment on the letters, Mr. Perinchief said: "No, my clients do not wish to comment on any of this material nor dignify the untruths contained within this scurrilous material designed and concocted solely to destroy the careers and reputations of the well-intentioned professionals named therein."
CedarBridge is currently entangled in court proceedings after information technology manager Bussie Ible was fired on May 3. He was fired hours after a court order was granted preventing the board from dismissing any of the school's managers. The managers had refused to sign controversial contracts saying they could be fired at any time. The board went on to fire two more managers but were forced to withdraw letters of termination to escape being in contempt of court.
The managers are represented by the Bermuda Public Service Union (BPSU).
