Samuels rolls into world's top 100
finish in the ladies singles at the World Tenpin Bowling Championships in the United Arab Emirates.
Samuels amassed a total pinfall of 1124 in the six-game series -- an average of 187.3 -- with a top score of 222 in the final game to clinch 92nd place overall.
She out-performed higher ranked Bermudians Dianne (Bobbie) Ingham, June Pitt, Pat Price and June Dill and debutant Traci Lambe.
Ingham, who averages around 190 at home, scored 1085 at an average of 180.8, while Pitt totalled 1070 with a top score of 219 in her second game. Price and Dill averaged 178.3 and 175.1 respectively. Lambe, making her first appearance overseas, averaged 154.6 with her best scores of 172 and 165 coming in her opening two games.
The USA's Kelly Kulick took first place in the field of 255 with a score of 1405 at an average of 234.1. Germany's Andrea Mirschel was second with 1326 and a high game of 268.
Spokeswoman Thalia Lightbourne admitted the bowlers had hoped for better scores but said that getting a top 100 finish among such a talented field had been a "great feat''.
The men's singles tournament was due to get underway last night.
