Derrick Brangman produced a skipper's innings to secure Devonshire Rec's top-flight safety, stroking a chanceless 69 in their two wicket win over PHC at Devonshire yesterday.

Brangman carried his team over the finish line to ensure victory, while his father Ricardo Brangman sr., laid the foundations by scoring 56 runs.

"As the skipper you know the team's relying on you to perform and get on with the task at hand, the runs were starting to pile up even though we were in control but knowing that the team needed someone to hang around and get the job done, I did that," said Brangman jr.

"At the end of the day we got the job done and were really just catching ourselves in what was required of us to be competitive."

PHC won the toss and posted a defendable total of 216 with skipper Kyle Lightbourne scoring 84.

Kameron Fox took three wickets and enjoyed able support from Dennis Williams, Brangman sr., and Wilbur Burt who took two wickets apiece.

Devonshire did not get off to a good start but Brangman sr. put down the necessary ground work by scoring a half century to set up an exciting finale.

With Somerset's home win over Bailey's Bay echoing around Devonshire Rec., skipper Brangman strolled to the crease knowing what was needed to get the required result and hit a six off of his cousin, Dean Stephens, to level the scores.

Williams then sealed the win with a straight six back over the bowler's head to seal the win.

Stephens took three wickets, while David Adams grabbed two.

"It was a hard target to get when I got to the crease and with the better batsman were gone, I knew I just needed to hang on and continue getting the score board ticking over," said Brangman jr.

"At the end of the day it was what we needed and we got there in the end to push the team and club to the finish line.

"Obviously going into the day and knowing we needed to win we got the job done, although with the fans saying we had to win we knew the job at hand.

"We got a team out there to fill our squad and got the job done to survive and we will look forward to next year and building for a new campaign."
