Bean opts for Hogges over Fury
Keishen Bean (above) has nailed his colours to the Bermuda Hogges mast after choosing to play for them instead of their Premier Development League (PDL) rivals Ottawa Fury.
Bean's decision will come as huge relief to the Hogges who believe his extra experience at the USL-D2 and senior national team level will prove invaluable during their debut PDL campaign.
The 23-year-old made a big impression at the Fury last season but the lure of turning out for his country's top football club was too much of a pull for the Somerset Eagles midfielder.
He had originally intended to remain with Canadian-based outfit but said financial issues had also been a factor in his final decision.
"Ottawa Fury were very upset I declined the opportunity to play with them this season due to financial responsibilities that they cannot meet," he said.
"I've opted to play for the Hogges this season because of the opportunity to work, play football, as well as be with my family.
"The Fury are hoping to re-sign me next summer."
Bean was one of Hogges' best players during their sophomore season in the USL-D2 in 2008 under ex-coach Kyle Lightbourne.
On Sunday, Bean will be looking to book Eagles' place in the FA Cup final when they take on Hamilton Parish at Somerset Cricket Club. The semi-final kicks-off at 2 p.m.
"Obviously we're going into this weekend's match with intentions of winning it," he said. "We have a squad that has no injuries or suspensions
"Not only are we looking to win but we are looking to entertain.
"Eagles have never won this cup so that's our motivation and it's a realistic accomplishment for our first season in the Premier Division."
