Hogges look to bounce back at home

Bermuda Hogges will not have time to look for sympathy when they return to action on home shores tomorrow against Richmond Kickers at the National Sports Centre (NSC).

The Hogges are still licking their wounds after a 5-1 mauling against Wilmington Hammerheads on Thursday night,

In their defence, the squad that travelled to the US was without some key players such as skipper Omar Shakir, Kwame Steede, Kevin Richards and Kofi Dill, with the Hogges sure to have a much stronger squad for tomorrow's game.

"They (Hammerheads) were the better team on the night and they out-fought us and our players were just not up to the challenge," said coach Kyle Lightbourne.

"We didn't cope with their aerial balls at all well and we haven't learnt how to shut up shop at the back when needed."

The Hogges will be bolstered by the return of defensive lynchpin Dill who has recovered from injury,

"I didn't play against Wilmington as I had a slight knock," said Dill.

"I haven't talked to the coach but from my point of view I feel I am ready and if needed will try my best to produce a good display in front of our own fans."

Dill believes shutting down the opposing team's attackers and reducing their ability to get open shots will be the key if the Hogges are to get back to winning ways.

"We need to lock down the back four so the opposition don't have the chances to score," said Dill.

"And when we have the ball we must use our pace up front to give them trouble when we go forward.

"If we do these things hopefully everything will work out for us."

While the Hogges' home form has been impressive this campaign, their performances on the road have been memorable for all the wrong reasons, with a staggering 17 goals being shipped past them.

North Village defender Dill is keen for the Hogges to reverse that trend.

"At home we feel more comfortable playing in front of our fans and feeding off the atmosphere.

"We usually can field our best side as well," he said.

"On a couple of the away trips we haven't had a full strength squad due to work commitments and what not.

"That is the main differences between our home and away form.

"Against Kickers we will be looking to use our home advantage and turn things around."

The Hogges take on Kickers at the NSC at 4 p.m. tomorrow.
