Bermuda Hogges suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Wilmington Hammerheads at the Legion Sports Complex, North Carolina, last night.

Hogges entered the match full of confidence following recent good performances against Western Mass Pioneers and Charlotte Eagles.

But their woes continue away from home with the team still yet to pick up a point on their travels this season.

Kyle Lightbourne's men were down 2-0 at half-time before Damon Ming pulled a goal back.

But the floodgates then opened with the Hogges' under-strength defence struggling to cope with Hammerheads' aerial bombardment.

Lightbourne said his players were out-fought and not up to the challenge.

"They were the better team on the night and they out-fought us and our players were just not up to the challenge," said Lightbourne."

Ming brought the Hogges back into the game scoring from a free-kick before they conceded a soft goal to leave themselves with a mountain to climb.

"Damon got us back into it but then we go and let in a stupid goal," said Lightbourne.

"We didn't cope with their aerial balls at all well and we haven't learnt how to shut up shop at the back when needed."

The Hogges return to action on Sunday against Richmond Kickers at the National Sports Centre. Kick-off is at 4 p.m.
