Bermuda
David Bascome still harbours a desire to play for Bermuda again, but says he needs to know in which direction the country is heading.
Bascome, fast earning legendary status at the Harrisburg Heat of the American indoor league, the NPSL, last played for Bermuda in their 5-1 World Cup qualifying victory over the British Virgin Islands in March last year.
He says he has not been in contact with new national coach Mark Trott, instead concentrating on the Heat's play-off run.
Trott was appointed to the post earlier this month and has himself yet to address the topic of involving overseas stars Bascome, Meshach Wade, Shaun Goater and Kyle Lightbourne.
Bascome said he would be willing to listen to see what was on offer, but would not be making a firm commitment at this time.
"Nobody has talked to me so I don't know, I don't even know what's going on with the national team,'' he said. "It's bittersweet with the national programme right now. It just depends what they are looking for, what's going to be the final outcome, what direction they want to go. I'll make my decisions based on that.'' Bascome indicated he had no desire to just come and play friendly games, believing the Island's young blood should be given a run out in such instances.
"If it's just to come and play some games and that's basically it then it's probably better off to play the guys down there, the younger guys and I can keep focused on my job at hand in Harrisburg,'' he said.
However, he did the leave door open for an approach from Trott and the Bermuda Football Association.
"I do want to be a part of the national programme but it just depends where they want to take it because that's important to me now, especially at this stage in the game,'' he said.
"One thing I would love to do is to play in front of the home crowd. I don't think anybody has seen me play in Bermuda for a very long time.
"I would love to have the chance but right now I'm just focusing on trying to win the championship with Harrisburg. If they do have any games coming up and they have some of the younger guys going out to play I wish them luck.'' Bascome's dream season continued at the weekend when the Harrisburg Heat wrapped up the National Professional Soccer League's American Conference.
The Heat lifted the crown thanks to Baltimore Blast's defeat of Philadelphia on Sunday.
The team, who also feature fellow Bermudian Meshach Wade, secured home field advantage throughout the 2001 play-offs.
It is just the second time in the Heat's 10-year history that they have won a regular season division or conference title and it is the first time the club have entered the play-offs with league's best record.
The Heat conclude their regular season on Friday with a match against Baltimore and open the play-offs against the American Conference's fourth seed on April 8 at the Farm Show Arena.
