Kyle comes close to sealing cup upset
little Walsall against Premier League Leeds United in the third round of the English FA Cup on Saturday.
Lightbourne set up Walsall's goal with an accurate pass to Chris Marsh on the half hour.
But after that he wasted an excellent opportunity when Marsh returned the favour. He was put clean through but saw Leeds 'keeper John Lukic save his shot on goal.
That kept Leeds in the game and they gave Walsall a tremendous pounding, although the Third Division side stood firm until three minutes from time.
Walsall might have cemented their win when the best passing move of the game created another one on one chance for Lightbourne, but again Lukic spread himself and somehow managed to claw the goal-bound shot behind for a corner.
Leeds eventually got their equaliser when David Weatherhall netted with a header in the 87th minute from Gary McCallister's precision free kick.
Reporter Chris Smith, who covered the match for the Wolverhampton Star and Express newspaper, told The Royal Gazette yesterday: "Kyle had an excellent game in front of a lot of Premier League scouts who were watching.
"But it was extremely annoying that he missed two of Walsall's really good chances which normally he would have put away blind-folded.'' The replay at Leeds' Elland Road ground has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 17.
