BLA to build on Canada success
The Bermuda Lacrosse Association (BLA) are looking for fresh faces with or without experience in the sport to join their ranks.
Fresh off the success of the Under-19 Bermuda lacrosse team's top 10 finish in Vancouver, Canada at the World Junior Championships, the BLA are looking for any students with lacrosse experience to become members of the organisation.
"If you play lacrosse overseas in high school or university we'd like to know about it," said Michael Totman, BLA president.
"We have many opportunities available to support students in their studies and lacrosse careers.
"If you have no experience with lacrosse but are interested in learning about the game, you are encouraged to contact the BLA for more information on how you can get started.
"We'd love to talk to anyone about playing for Bermuda in the upcoming ILF sanctioned World Championships.
"We have players of all ages and skill levels from U-12 to Men's Masters.
"In addition to the men's team we have a newly formed women's club that will begin competition soon."
"There are a number of upcoming opportunities for international competition for Bermuda's lacrosse players such as the 2010 Senior World Championships, 2012 U-19 World Championships, and club tournaments in locations such as Tampa and Miami, Florida, Newport, Rhode Island, and New Orleans, Louisiana.
"In addition, members can participate in the annual international tournament held in Bermuda as well as the local Tri-Nations tournaments."
Bermuda lacrosse was one of the first new lacrosse programs outside of the United States and Canada in the western hemisphere.
Since participating in the 2006 World Championships, Bermuda has seen other unexpected nations developing lacrosse programmes.
Currently Mexico and Costa Rica are two new programmes that Bermuda looks forward to competing with in the near future.
The Bermuda Lacrosse Association is a local charity charged with promoting healthy lifestyle choices and exercise through the sport of lacrosse.
