Island's lacrosse team warm up for Worlds

Bermuda's Under-19 lacrosse team continued their preparations for the World Championships next month with a warm-up tournament against an all-star team from New York.

The inaugural King of the Rock tournament saw Team MacWear from Long Island fly to Bermuda to put the Island's youngsters through their paces over the weekend.

The U-19 Worlds will be held in Vancouver, Canada, from July 3 to July 12.

Bermuda have been placed into a group of six developing nations including Scotland, Finland, Wales, Germany and South Korea.

"Having a team of the highest lacrosse skill and character such as Team MacWear visit Bermuda and spend time not only competing against our club, but helping to teach the younger players some of the finer points that are necessary to win was an invaluable experience," said Michael Totman, president of Bermuda Lacrosse.

"We cannot thank those guys enough for taking the time to come to Bermuda to help us as we try to develop our programme.

"We learned more this weekend from Inside Lacrosse about what the lacrosse community thinks of the sport growing in Bermuda and are confident that this tournament will continue to take shape and evolve into a premier stop on the summer tournament schedule."

"We've got plans for a youth initiative, a women's entry in the world championships, and an even bigger event next year." added Totman.

Next year's event promises to be even more spectacular with the addition of more teams, including women's teams to compete against Bermuda's newly-formed women's lacrosse club.
