Crowd enjoys the sweetness

@$:[AT]bylinerg:By René Hill [AT]bodyindent:Culture Shock's Sweetness is My Weakness concert on Saturday night offered Reggae fans a rare glimpse into greatness.Artist Ali opened the night and pleased the early crowd with his music, even to the point of being called back for an encore. Emcee Richie B, who hails from Jamaica's Hot 102 FM, kept the night live and direct by engaging the crowd between performances. And when Bermudian Gospel Reggae artist Troy Anthony followed, he took things up a notch with songs from his "Rise Up" album. The audience screamed as he sang one of his most popular songs "Serve Jah," along with "Jah Bless Me", and "The Grave is 2 Late". These were just a few songs in his very high-energy performance, which also energised the crowd. When asked about his performance immediately after leaving the stage, he said: "The people were really good and they were singing really nice with me and they really gave me a boost, because when I came on it was like a slow kind of a vibe, but the people really came alive and they participated very well."On success, he said: "You know what, God is good, and he has really blessed me and I am enjoying the journey every step of it, even the parts that are hard are helping me to build character – I am enjoying it and that is the truth."When asked what was the main thing that he wanted to impart with his music, he added: "Praise God, it is the simplest and the biggest thing for me. Give thanks."Next up was the Harmony House Band that warmed up the crowds with anticipation of the King of Lovers Rock. They played some of his hits and more in a set that was really tight and very entertaining. All that was missing was the voice, but then above screams and the skanking came the sound for which the audience had been waiting – Beres Hammond himself. When they heard him there were screams and the crowd literally went mad. Smiles on everyone's faces anticipated seeing him on stage.Once he was on stage crowd participation was at an utmost high with them finishing songs and singing the chorus much to his delight. It seemed as though he was enjoying hearing them as much as they were enjoying hearing him."What One Dance Can Do", rung out across Somerset Cricket Club, next came "Do You Love Me Now That I Can Dance." When he began singing the crowds went off again when he sang, "Falling in love (Falling) all over again". *t(0,0," ")He was a master at connecting well with the audience; he knew what everyone had come for and sang many crowd favourites. *t(0,0," ")Drums and more drums took the audience into "Hey Little Girl".*t(0,0," ")When the Reggae crooner called out: "All the ladies in the house," all the women seemed to answer his call with squeals and yells. "Double Trouble" trailed after, with everyone singing 'It's wrapped up in my bed, I'm tired, I'm sleepy, Can't take the nagging in my head'.*t(0,0," ")The audience soaked up hit after hit with "Putting Up a Resistance" and "Can You Play Some More" brought even more energy.*t(0,0," ")*t(0,0," ")Bf"Franklin Gothic Book"Without missing a beat, the ten-piece Harmony House Band went immediately into "They Gonna Talk" where he broke off after several versus and spoke to the audience about loving themselves first.*t(0,0," ")The energy that he exuded was unbelievable.*t(0,0," ")From his latest album "A Moment In Time," he performed "I Feel Good," as you're wrapped up in my arms. The new song has a similar feeling too much of his love-driven music.*t(0,0," ")It is quite amazing that after performing for 35 years, he is still able to bounce about the stage with the energy of a youngster.*t(0,0," ")Time had no meaning as the night went on and on as dub beats drifted off the stage with the keyboardist seeming to keep time. He continued with the likes of "Sweetness," giving all the men in the audience a lesson in expressing love.*t(0,0," ")To the audience's delight, "Show It Off" soon followed, and on the back of that came "Come Down Father."*t(0,0," ")"No Disturb Sign" had the people screaming and singing along. *t(0,0," ")As the night came to an end after singing for two hours straight, he performed "It's Not Too Late," "Black Beauty," the anthem-like "Rose Garden," "Rockaway," and he finished with "Give Thanks."*t(0,0," ")Big props to Keith Simmons and the Culture Shock team – they did it again – it was a great show!
