Warwick evicted in row with Rangers

Warwick Workman's Club will not be playing any home league cricket fixtures at Southampton Oval this season, Southampton Rangers Sports Club president Randy Raynor revealed yesterday.

That's because the First Division club have been given the boot after flatly rejecting Rangers' latest pay demands for use of their facilities.

"Warwick will not be playing any cricket at Southampton Oval this summer," Raynor said. "They disagreed with the new pay demands Southampton Rangers were looking for.

"We haven't had any feedback from Warwick but there are other clubs who have already shown interest to use the Oval as their home venue this summer who we are actively pursuing."

Warwick had been given until the end of last month to decide whether or not to agree to the rise. However, it is understood negotiations between the two parties soured amid an ongoing row involving Warwick president Gary Fray and Rangers boss Raynor over the suspension of Southampton player/coach Janeiro Tucker.

Raynor, who serves on Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) along with Fray, denied that his club's actions had anything to do with Tucker's highly-publicised ordeal and declined to disclose the amount of money Warwick had been asked to fork out.

"This had nothing to do with Randy Raynor," he said. "There is no way we are going to continue to rent our field out cheaply. We have rent and other bills to pay too."

Warwick are now understood to be looking to secure Sea Breeze Oval as their home venue this summer. But when contacted yesterday club president Fray held his cards close to his chest.

"I have no comment to make because this matter has nothing to do with the general public," he said.
