BDA?ran home to daddy
August 29, 2012Dear Sir,Prima facie is a Latin expression meaning on its first encounter. In Common Law jurisdictions, prima facie denotes evidence that — unless rebutted — would be sufficient to prove a particular proposition or fact. We often get caught up in calling the One Bermuda Alliance the new United Bermuda Party ... which considering its modus operandi is hard to deny. Yet we are overlooking some other persons who are complicit in the grand theft of political integrity … The Bermuda Democratic Alliance. We far too often zero in on the UBP old guard takeover of the BDA. But let’s not delude ourselves, these BDA people were not victims of political rape and pillage by the Vikings. They were and are consenting adults. Let’s break it down like this these folks, three MPs, Donte Hunt, Shawn Crockwell and Mark Pettingill, essentially the BDA triangle (three sides), along with Craig Cannonier, Michael Fahy and others, basically saw that the old guard of the UBP had no intention of changing their archaic, conservative, insular ways. Moreover, the UBP had no intentions of letting these three gentlemen actually progress beyond window dressing. Hence, they, like the prodigal son of the Bible, went and formed a new party and began to chart a new path for themselves.“The trouble with the BDA is, who do you talk to? At the last by-election the three MPs never showed up at the polling station so it appears that the public face is Craig Cannonier,” Mr Moniz told The Royal Gazette in January, 2011. Shortly thereafter they ran Mr Sylvan Richards in the by-election for Warwick South Central and take a sound beating. Okay, fine, no worries, “this too shall pass”. That is part of political growth. Now, instead of building on this loss and standing their ground as the multiethnic liberal-minded “yuppies and buppies” of Bermuda, they like, the prodigal son once, broke and ran back home to daddy. They then decide to capitulate and give in to the whims of “Daddy Warbucks” aka Uncle UBP.Now what I want to ask of you is this. How much faith do you place in a group of persons who had high morals and ideals but in turn said, “um the hell with the high road just give me a fast track back to the inner circle of economic elite power of Bermuda”. I have noticed with increased frequency the number of persons of every persuasion, yet more female than male, who have recently stated, “I would have voted BDA but the minute the uncle UBP stepped back in I washed my hands of them”. In my next letter I will conclude my analysis of the BDA. Until then, family stand strong.CHRISTOPHER FAMOUSDevonshire
