Girl tells court she was raped in bathroom by a family friend
A teenage girl told a court that a family friend raped her in her own bathroom.
The man is accused of threatening to kill her after she reported the attack to the authorities.
The girl, who was 15 at the time, faced her alleged rapist across the courtroom as she gave evidence in his Magistrates' Court trial yesterday.
She told the court she's known the man, 38-year-old "Mr. X", all her life.
"He watched me grow up," she explained. Mr. X was staying at her Pembroke home at the time of the incident in 2008 as he was having problems with his girlfriend. The girl was living there with her mother and siblings but they were all out that afternoon.
"He raped me in that house, in the bathroom," she told the court. "I was brushing my teeth and my hair... the defendant came in and I thought he was coming in to get something out of the bathroom so I needed to move out of his way."
She alleges that he went on to rape her and force oral sex upon her.
Mr. X, a father of two young children, works in the construction industry. He's further alleged to have threatened the girl after he was charged and bailed over the sex allegations.
He's accused of approaching her in Parliament Street, Hamilton, in October 2009 and saying: "You are ruining my life and you need to get my life back up to what it used to be because you are lying. Don't let me see you nowhere because the next time I am going to kill you. I know where you stay and go. If you don't go to the Police and tell the truth I am going to kill you."
He was remanded into custody after being charged over the threats.
Neither Mr. X nor his accuser can be identified for legal reasons. He denies charges of sexually assaulting the girl, sexually touching her while in a position of trust, attempting to obstruct justice by intimidating a person who'd made a Police complaint, and using threatening words.
The trial is due to continue later this week.
