Company sets up staff scholarship
has been set up.
Holmes, William and Purvey is to provide $15,000 a year in the name of Sir John Plowman, for HWP staff or their offspring in the study area of their choice.
HWP named the award, which could be given to one person or a number of applicants, after Sir John's to honour his dedication to the company of which he was chairman.
And they are keen to advance the qualifications of their employees in post secondary education and their children.
Don Mackenzie, HWP Group chairman, said he was proud to be able to offer the opportunity.
"It honours Sir John Plowman, who dedicated the majority of his business career to this company and it underscores his commitment and HWP's commitment to two very important causes in our community, education and youth,'' he said.
"We are dedicated to supporting education and the development of young people.'' The award will be made by a selection committee of Sir John, Mr. Mackenzie, president Jonathan Brewin and human resources vice president Jocene Wade. It will be based upon the applicant's past achievements as well as choice of planned study.
Sir John said: "I am honoured that HWP have decided to add my name. It is vital that we make certain that we have qualified Bermudians to do the jobs and provide them with the opportunity for advancement.''
