Accident woman in serious condition
serious foot injuries following a collision between a motorcycle and car around 7.30 p.m. on Palmetto Road, just west of the Devonshire Recreation Club. Meanwhile the male operator of the car, a white Nissan Sentra, was arrested for drunk driving, a Police spokesperson last night said.
While Police were releasing few details, witnesses at the scene told The Royal Gazette the man and woman were riding pillion on a Suzuki motorcycle and heading west on Palmetto Road when they were struck by the Sentra, travelling east at a high rate of speed, but in westbound lane.
A large crowd gathered near the intersection at Roberts Avenue to watch as paramedics tended to the victims; the male rider was seen sitting upright and was receiving attention to his foot. He was later placed in a waiting Police cruiser, a move that drew angry protests from some of the bystanders.
The female rider appeared to be in extreme pain, and was heard crying out several times as she was loaded into a waiting ambulance. It is not known who was operating the cycle.
