Quality awareness team has target well
in the work place.
And chairperson of the Bermuda Quality Awareness Team Ms Patricia Daly said she is confident that the group, which formed two years ago, will go "from strength to strength''.
Reviewing the group's original goals at its annual general meeting last week, Ms Daly noted that the BQAT conducted a benchmark survey in June, last year.
"Through that survey we found out that a full 54 percent were not aware of the quality process,'' she said.
From the survey results, the BQAT created two goals; to increase quality awareness to 100 percent among those surveyed and to have 25 percent of those surveyed using or planning to use the quality process.
To reach the first goal the BQAT commissioned a research company to re-survey that original group.
"We were pleased that after all the presentations, Press releases, speakers and other activities, the awareness quality among the original survey group has grown to 87 percent,'' Ms Daly said.
"We are also very pleased to report that our follow-up survey shows that 31 percent of the original survey group are currently using the quality process in their businesses. And of those who are not using it now, 33 percent of the respondents have plans to do so in the future.'' She said the BQAT's drive for quality awareness was helped by the Premier who became its first honorary member and attended the group's press conference and other special events.
One of the major efforts undertaken by the group's charter members was the creation of a college-level course at the Bermuda College on quality awareness.
The course, which was designed, written and taught by charter members, drew one of the highest enrolment figures of all the evening courses held at the college last winter.
And out of the 23 students who graduated from it, 22 are members of BQAT.
In addition to educating the community about the quality process, the course generated close to $7,000 in revenues for the group, Ms Daly added.
The BQAT, which produces its own newsletter, has more than 100 members who serve in various areas, including a membership committee, an education, training and event-planning committee, a library and resource committee, and a publicity and fundraising committee.
Ms Daly said: "We are well on our way to becoming a major force for the improvement of the quality of work life on the Island.''
