Furbert qualifies for Carifta Games

Bermuda's Allison Outerbridge competed at the Virginia Tech Invitational at the weekend.

Bermuda athlete Kerri Furbert has qualified for this year’s Carifta Games after setting a personal best in the women’s long jump at the Missouri Invitational at the weekend.The University of Missouri student posted a leap of 5.76 metres to finish third in her event at the indoor meet held at the Hearnes Centre, Columbia.Furbert, who has qualified for Games’ ‘A’ standard, also competed in the 60 metre dash, finishing 15th in a time of 8.04 seconds.Last summer the former Warwick Academy pupil signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Missouri on an athletic scholarship on the recommendation of her coach Brian Wellman.Furbert came fifth in the Under-20 girls’ long jump final at last year’s Carifta Games in Bermuda.This year’s Games will be held at the Thomas Robinson Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas from March 28 to April 1.Also competing at the weekend were Bermuda’s Ashley Berry of Duke University and University of Tennessee’s Allison Outerbridge at the Virginia Tech Invitational.Berry finished 11th in the women’s mile final in a time of 5:04.83.Outerbridge came fourth in the women’s triple jump with a personal best of 11.98m, and ninth in the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.43m.
