These two teams may well be joining each other in the climb to the Premier Division next season after gaining promotion from the First Division this month, but only Devonshire will be advancing to the Knockout finals this weekend.

At Devonshire Rec. yesterday the home side, who finished second to Bay in league play, scored a 12-run victory with wicketkeeper-batsman Ricardo Brangman slamming 51 and Simroy Crossdale and Lamont Brangman combining to take seven wickets.

Crossdale finished with four for 58 off 10 overs while Brangman snatched three for 43 off 10 overs, including a maiden.

Bay - not nearly the same squad that defeated Flatts in Saturday's Eastern Counties Cup game at Lord's - were made aware of the stiff competition they faced when Devonshire advanced to 100 for one, opener Ricardo Brangman being the dominant batsman.

They went on to reach a respectable total thanks to Brangman, who batted for 96 minutes and slammed nine fours while facing 79 balls. Also among the runs were skipper Winston Trott with 26, Derek Brangman (24) and Omar Amory (22).

Teenager Rodney Trott was outstanding for Bay with the ball, turning in a five-wicket haul while conceding 45 runs off 10 overs. Clarkie Trott had three for 24 off 8.4 overs with a maiden and Corey Hill took two for 32 off 10 overs.

Bay made a spirited fightback but fell just short of their target. Opener Jermaine Warner topped their batting with 47, skipper Jermaine Outerbridge followed with 30 while Hill hit 27.

Flatts 149

Leg Trappers, having already exceeded expectations by finishing in the top half of the table, gave themselves another boost in their first-ever season in the First Division by shocking Flatts at Sea Breeze Oval yesterday.

The 55-run triumph put the former Commercial League side into the First Division KO final against Devonshire Rec. this weekend.

Chris Fleming's fine knock of 75 led them to their formidable total, Graham Strange following on 39 and opener Gary Knight scoring 24.

James Celestine was the outstanding bowler for Flatts with three wickets for 27 off 4.1 overs while Derek Wright had two for 28 off nine overs and Chris Caisey two for 30 off 10 overs.

Veteran Gary Brangman, batting at number eight, topped Flatts' batting with 36. Phillip Burgess struck 29 and opener Lloyd Fray scored 24.

Luke O'Connor was the bowling hero for Trappers with three wickets for 28 runs off 10 overs while veteran spinner James Swan had two for 20 off nine overs with three maidens. Strange had two for 26 off six overs and James Kent two for 52 off 10 overs with two maidens.
