Goodwill Golf tournament yesterday as 105 teams swung into action.

Long Cove Club from Hilton Head Island in South Carolina roared into a three shot lead as they went round the Warwick course in net 55, led by professional Bob Patton.

Three shots back on 58 are Holland Country Club from Holland, Michigan and Chateau Elan from Braselton, Georgia, who also opened the tournament at Belmont.

But perhaps the most impressive round of the day was the net 59 fired by Weston Golf Club from Weston, Massachusetts on the more difficult Port Royal course.

Best of the local teams were Southampton Princess -- Allan Wilkinson, Paul Hayward, Ray DeSilva, and Frank DeMoura -- who toured Mid Ocean in net 60.

At Castle Harbour, the leading team was Charles River Country Club from Newton Centre, Massachusetts. They carded a low net of 62.

The tournament continues today, Thursday and Friday with the teams having to complete rounds at all four courses.

Tomorrow will see the Bacardi Rum professional championship at Mid Ocean Club with a purse of $16,000 for seniors and juniors.
