Pitt, Burch hang on for victory
Bill Pitt and Leroy Burch completed a wire-to-wire win in the Bermuda Four Ball Championships yesterday but not before their resolve was put fully to the test at Port Royal Golf Course.
The pair, who led by seven strokes going into the weekend, responded with identical 72s in their last two rounds to finish on 283, one over par. The champions were pushed close by Jarryd Dillas and David Smith, who finished two strokes back, with Tim Carr and Joey McRonald, runners-up last year, third on 290.
Dillas and Smith, who shot 68 on Saturday and 70 yesterday, would regret opening the competition with a 78.
The low net title went to Andrew Bissell and Joe DeSilva with a 270.
Ebonie Burgess and Gail Kozol came from behind to snatch the women's title from the grasp of Sue Holland and Pat Morgan.
Trailing by one stroke going into the third and final round, Burgess and Kozol prevailed despite shooting 80, their worst score of the tournament, for a 54-hole total of 234.
Holland and Morgan finished with a disappointing 83 and were two strokes behind the champions, while Joan Cassidy and Carla O'Callaghan were a distant third on 244.
Rose Stupfel and Katyna Rabain captured the low net title with a score of 211.
