Richardson to run for VP position

Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) executive Allen Richardson has declared his intentions to run for the Board's first-vice president's position, vacated by Gary Fray who resigned for personal reasons, in next month's Annual General Meeting.

The ex-St.David's opening batsman, one of a handful of players to surpass 1,000 runs in the Eastern Counties Cup competition, has officially notified his BCB colleagues of his immediate plans to climb up the Board's pecking order and is confident he can lobby the support to carry him to the next plateau.

Richardson lost to incumbent Reggie Pearman via a tie-breaker for the presidency of local cricket's governing body last year but has since been appointed as chairman of the BCB's technical committee where he continues to serve.

The BCB's technical committee, comprised of national coach Gus Logie, BCB development director Arnold Manders, assistant national coach Herbie Bascome, top umpire Roger Dill and ex-Bermuda skippers Gladstone (Sad) Brown and Clay Smith, serves as an expert consultant on all cricket matters to the Board.

Richardson could not be reached for comment yesterday.

However, BCB sources confirmed that he had thrown his hat into the ring.
