It begs the question
May 6, 2003
Dear Sir,
There is an advertisement on Page 12 of the May 6 edition of your newspaper that reads "Remember the CURE Survey 2001? Here's what it found: Although executive level jobs account for only four percent of all jobs, white people held 68 percent of them in 2001. This is unchanged from the 2000 CURE Survey".
This ad appears to be placed by CURE which, in small print, is described as the Commission for Unity and Racial Equality. This leads me to ask the following questions:
What is the purpose of this advertisement? How do we define an "executive level" job? Do these figures include the international executives in our international business? What does "white people" mean? Are these "white people" Bermudian people, non-Bermudian people, old people or young people? Are they Christian people, Jewish people, Muslim people, Buddhist people, or atheist people? Are they able-bodied people or disabled people? Are they male people or female people? Are they able-bodied people or disabled people? Are they male people or female people? Are they blue-eyed people or brown-eyed people? Are they short people, fat people, skinny people or tall people? Need I go on and on about these people? If the answer is no, then why does CURE go on and on about white people and black people? What kind of unity does this achieve?
JUST ASKING
