Juniors impress in golf league opener
with the Island's leading senior players when their team of six tied for first place in the opening round of this year's Amstel League.
The Bermuda Junior Golf Association team, led by David James who fired a highly impressive one-under-par 69, toured the Ocean View course for a total of 293 -- four of the best six scores counting.
Also carding 293 in the A Division were Mid Ocean Club, for whom Ricky Cox shot the day's lowest round of four-under 66.
Port Royal claimed third place five shots behind the joint winners on 298, thanks in part to Leroy Burch who had the day's second best round of 69.
Belmont took fourth place on 299, Ocean View could manage only fifth on their home course with a 306 total while Port Royal II (312) and Belmont II (334) rounded out the field.
In the first round of the B Division at Belmont, in which the best three of six scores counted, Ocean View II led the way with a 232 total, five ahead of the BGA Men's team.
Castle Harbour took third place on 238 followed by Ocean View III (244), Port Royal III (251) and BGA Ladies (267).
Top individual was Castle Harbour's Michael Sousa who negotiated the Warwick course in five-over 75.
Ocean View's Winston (Coe) Trott and Roger Harvey were next best with 76 and 77 respectively.
