As the saying goes: "You play with fire, you get burnt.'' After a successful and innovative World Cup in the United States, teams learned that the over-use of the offside trap can spell trouble with attacking players given the benefit of the doubt.

But, evidently, Social Club are not among such teams as three times they paid the penalty in the first half, leading to a predictable exit at the first round stage.

Clevie Campbell, after three minutes, Philip Clarke in the 24th and Devon Brangman in the 35th minute beat Social Club 'keeper Earlston Wolffe to provide the margin of victory.

But there were several other opportunities when Cougars front-runners streaked forward clear of their flat-footed markers and failed to increase the lead.

Though they were outgunned early on, Social Club had a few half-chances that if capitalised upon may have given Cougars cause for concern.

Randy Spence, the Bluebirds' best player on the day, crossed for Jahmahi Lewis in the 13th minute but after a moment's hesitation the winger's shot was charged down.

Shortly after Clarke put Cougars two up, Social Club striker Rembert Hill headed over a Lewis cross from a good position.

Clarke had earlier hit the bar from outside the area and Wali Salaam went close before Brangman beat Earlston Wolffe at the near post after dashing in from the right.

Social Club came more into the match in the second half, but that was largely due to the home side's lethargy. More sharpness in and around the area was needed but, in the end, Leon Place only had a long-range shot from Shannon Burchall to comfortably contend with.
