Man hospitalised after suspected gang fight
A man was being treated in hospital for lacerations last night after what Police say could have been a gang-related street fight.
The disturbance in Devonshire comes just two days after a 19-year-old man was critically injured in the same parish and an 18-year-old man was shot dead in Paget.
Witnesses to last night?s incident ? which happened in the area of Friswell?s Hill and Roberts Avenue between 8 and 9 p.m ? told Police officers that they saw individuals running away from the scene wielding baseball bats.
Police spokesman Dwayne Caines told that details of what happened were still sketchy but added: ?It?s a concerning incident to the Police. Because of the incidents... a few days ago, I don?t want to make light of it.?
He said a connection with the violence at the weekend had not been ruled out but that it was ?much too early to even suggest that?.
Mr. Caines said: ?It?s unclear as to what was the catalyst for that altercation but it appeared to be a confrontation between two groups of people. When the Police got on scene everyone had made good their escape.?
He said the incident looked from all indications to have involved gangs.
Mr. Caines added that it was not yet known what weapon was used in the attack but that the man?s injuries suggested it was a bladed article.
The victim, no details of whom were given last night, was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in a private vehicle.
Police are appealing for witnesses or information about the attack. Anyone who can help should call 295-0011.
A man was taken into police custody last night in connection with the incident.
