Impaired driver was found asleep on road next to his car

A Warwick resident appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday after being caught lying on the road asleep next to his car three times over the legal alcohol limit.

The court heard from Crown counsel Brett Webber that 33-year-old Mark Browne was seen by Police lying on the road asleep on Front Street near his car which was parked nearby with the key in the ignition.

When Police asked Browne if he had been drinking he said he had.

Police noticed his eyes were glazed, his speech was slurred, he smelled of alcohol and he was salivating.

The Bermuda Air Conditioner engineer admitted that he had been driving and was then arrested and taken to Hamilton Police station for a breathalyser test.

The test showed his reading of 232 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood the legal limit being 80 mg.

Browne apologised to the court before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner disqualified him from driving for 12 months, fined him $1,000 and issued him 10 demerit points.
