Man admits obstructing Police

A 24-year-old Pembroke man who obstructed officers attempting to search him for drugs was yesterday given a conditional discharge.Lynn Tucker, from Old House Lane, pleaded guilty to obstructing an officer, but told Magistrates’ Court that he didn’t have any drugs in his possession at the time of the incident.According to Crown counsel Auralee Cassidy, Police went to Western Stars Sports Club in Pembroke around 8.55pm on September 15 where they reportedly smelled cannabis.They saw Tucker walk into the building and followed him into the club’s bathroom.The officers said they saw him clutching something in his hand and informed him that he was going to be searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act.At that point, Tucker allegedly threw a quantity of plant material into one of the toilets.Arrested for obstructing an officer in the line of duty, he reportedly told the officer: “I was just scared. It was just some weed.”Appearing in court, Tucker admitted obstructing the officer, but denied that he had any drugs, saying he had thrown out his arms because he was surprised by the officer entering the rest room.“I just told him what he wanted to hear so I could get out of there,” Tucker told the court.Magistrate Juan Wolffe issued Tucker a six-month conditional discharge, telling him: “In the future, just let police officers do their job.“If you are not guilty of anything, you have no reason to obstruct them.”
