Man charged with impersonating police officer
A Southampton man has been charged with impersonating a police officer and leaving a threatening message on a Government department’s voicemail machine.
Thirty six year-old Lorin Baxter, of Fork Lane, denied attempting to impersonate a police officer outside Cosmopolitan Nightclub on January 19.
Mr Baxter, however, admitted leaving a threatening message on the Government Department of Workforce Development’s voicemail which contained a string of obscenities.
The court heard that Mr Baxter was charged after a security guard outside the nightclub allegedly told him to remove his headpiece.
“I am a police officer,” Baxter allegedly told the security guard.
Police later approached Baxter about his alleged claims.
“I am a police officer,” he allegedly told police officers. “I’m deep undercover and you guys don’t have jurisdiction to talk to me.
“My number is 8446 and ‘dem’ guys ain’t give me no badge. I was hired in 1990 by the Portuguese.”
Badge numbers for Bermuda police officers do not currently go past the number 3000.
Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Mr Baxter on $1000 bail and set trial for May 1.
