Lawyer Orchid Morrison joins the Bermuda Bar
The newest addition to the Bermuda Bar, lawyer Orchid Morrison, joined the Island’s legal fraternity in a short ceremony before Chief Justice Ian Kawaley yesterday.
Mr Justice Kawaley commended Ms Morrison, who is currently part of the legal team at the HSBC Bank, as “a woman for all seasons”, as she has been called to the UK Bar and is also a qualified solicitor.
“I’m sure she will be of considerable assistance to Bermuda,” he added.
Noting that Ms Morrison comes from the Cayman Islands, Mr Justice Kawaley said it would prove helpful to Bermuda to gain a lawyer from “a sister jurisdiction with which we have strong and friendly ties”.
Andrew Martin, of MJM Limited, introduced Ms Morrison to the court.
She studied law at the University of Kent in the UK, graduating in 1998, and in 2001 was Called to the Bar of England and Wales, where she is a member of the Lincoln’s Inn.
She trained in London’s Erskine Chambers and also at Five Stone Buildings, before returning to the Cayman Islands to practise commercial law and her own private practice.
She competed her qualifying law transfer test in 2011 and was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors. Ms Morrison has resided in Bermuda for 18 months.
