Health challenges have forced X-Clue-Sive Creations owner Doris Wade to put the business up for sale.Ms Wade, who has been living with lupus for many years, said the stress of working six days a week is taking a toll on her health. The lupus has been in remission since the business opened on King Street in 2004.“It’s been eight long years since I opened the doors to my brainchild X-Clue-Sive Creations paint-your-own-pottery studio on Reid Street extension, Bermuda’s only DIY walk-in art facility,” said Ms Wade. “What an exciting ride it has been.“I am proud to have served the community with a place to bond with family and friends, a fun place to learn something new.“A great escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life, allowing guests to relax, spend time with their loved ones, or getting to know someone new, and create lasting memories in a warm environment.“After managing the business for eight years, loading the kiln, conducting workshops and camps and working six days a week, it’s time to slow down and attend to my health. This has brought me to the point to sell the business.“Since the start of the business my lupus has been in remission. I thank God for his blessings, I have been able to pursue a goal and dream and do more than I expected I can do with a GCE in art and without further education after high school.“I kept my focus on my passion for the arts. Though I’m cheerless my wish is to see someone carry on the unique art concept and continue to offer a positive, fun pottery studio.”She added: “Beside selling the business, I have my entire one-of-a-kind hand painted pottery for sale ... plates, platters, mugs, large urns and a host of unique shapes and designs.‘Part of my pottery sale proceeds will go to the Lupus Foundation. I will continue to paint custom orders for anyone looking for unique gifts, wedding items or something for themselves.“This is my passion and my form of art therapy. I am still open for walk-in business and birthday parties.”And the business has provided therapy for others, too, over the years.“Through the years of business I have seen kids and adults explore the studio and come back for more,” said Ms Wade. “I have had satisfaction in seeing the expressions on their faces when they come to collect their completed glazed work.“Most did not believe they had a creative side and that it’s not as hard as they thought, needing no experience at all.”Ms Wade has been in the pottery business for 22 years, obtaining her Ceramic Art Ambassador Certification with one of the world’s leading ceramic supply manufacturers and first working at Island Pottery. She has taught a variety of classes, workshops and camps for children and adults. She paints custom hand-painted pottery for visitors and Bermudians from house signs to dinner sets.Lately, she has been painting exclusive wedding place settings, including wine glasses, favours and guest register platters. She is known for her line of exclusive works and abstract style of painting, use of a vibrant colour palette and textures, which she says inspired the name X-Clue-Sive Creations.Last February she held a pottery exhibit at the Bermuda Society of Arts and has a large selection of unique designs displayed in her gift shop.To showcase the business to persons seriously interested in maintaining it, Ms Wade will hold an open house on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 6.30pm and on Sunday from 1pm to 5pm at the Visual Arts Centre on King Street.Interested persons can call 296-1676 or by e-mailing xcreations[AT]logic.bm“I would like to thank all my valuable customers who helped X-Clue-Sive Creations to be an important part of our social and entertaining life in Bermuda,” said Ms Wade. “We received two Bermuda Gold Awards for Best Kids Activity and mentioned for the best $20 spent.”l Lupus is one of the disorders known as a collagen disease.
