‘Hope’ the paralysed cat improving in hospital

This little grey tabby dubbed "Hope" by the staff at Ettrick Animal Hospital was brought in by a passerby after being struck on East Broadway

Hope the cat, who was found wounded on Crow Lane last month, remains in hospital, but her outlook is improving. While the small grey tabby still has no movement in her back half, doctors at Ettrick Animal Hospital said her reflexes are improving and people have expressed interest in adopting her.“She has improved a lot,” said one doctor. “When she came in she could not control her bladder and needed assistance to urinate, but that has changed.“Now, we are still waiting for signs of improvement, but we are still keeping her in. We still have a hope.”Hope was first brought to Ettrick on November 23 after being found injured in the road, likely after being struck by a vehicle. With the animal unable to move her back half and suffering injuries to her right side, hospital staff attempted to locate the cat’s owner, but no one came forward.Instead, dozens of people came forward to donate funds to help pay the cat’s growing medical bill. Dr Andrew Madeiros said the donations were not only able to cover all the bills relating to Hope, but create a fund to help other injured animals.
