Brown urges players to keep their cool
Devonshire Cougars coach Dennis Brown has called on his players to “harness their emotions” ahead of their top-of-table clash against crosstown rivals Dandy Town tonight.Cougars face a Hornets side in red hot form having won four successive games including a confidence-boosting victory over defending Premier Division champions North Village last weekend. Both teams are level on points with league leaders PHC, with Brown looking for his side to build on their recent wins over Southampton Rangers and St David’s.“This is a huge match for us. Traditionally it’s a big game for both teams so it will be vital for us to harness our emotions but play with a will and desire to succeed,” said the former Somerset Trojans boss.“With the first half of the season winding down it’s important for us to be fully prepared both mentally and physically for the match.”Brown, who taking charge of his first season, believes his team are showing steady signs of improvement but still doesn’t believe they have played anywhere near their full potential.“One must remember that I’m still getting to know the players and vice versa but to be truthful, we haven’t played anywhere near what I know that this team can play,” said Brown.“Although we haven’t played to our full potential in some matches, we are now in a good position going into the second half of the season, and looking at Cougars in the last few seasons they have always been better in the second half of the season.“The most important thing for us is to maintain a level of consistency and positive progression for the second half of the season, then see where that places us.”Cougars take on Hornets at Devonshire Rec. tonight at 9pm.
