Sean Trott has returned home to run the Derby
The feeling of the adrenaline in the race brings Sean Trott (who's currently attending Lancaster Bible College, in Lancaster Pennsylvania) from abroad to spend a holiday morning running a 13-mile race for 24th of May. He says he is very excited to be running the race again.
Sean said, "I love to run. I love the feeling of the adrenalin, the joy running brings to me. I run because I like to chase my personal achievements. I train every day on the road or at the National Stadium. I started running because I wanted to see how far I could push myself," he noted, "and now I work on that so that I can pass even that.
"Running in 24th of May has always been one of my goals, and now that I accomplished that goal, I run every year."
He is sure to be in the race next year too.
"My parents are always supporting me when I run; they're probably my biggest fans," he added.
Sean has made friends with a lot of the older runners, and has a friend running with him this year.
"My advice for people who want to run, but have not run the race before, is that you should train.
"You can't show up the day of the race expecting to run if you're not ready. It's a long run, and it won't be easy."
At the same time, he notes that if you are not a long-distance runner, but really want to run, you shouldn't let the distance intimidate you.
"All that matters is that you make it across the finish line, not the place you came. Just try to do your best."
During the actual race, he advises, "What you should do is find a way to keep yourself calm, and take your time when your running.
"You have more than enough time to sprint at the end if you want to. When I run the cheering of the crowds makes me excited, so I keep on running,"
He concluded: "To me running is great, it's fun, and exciting. I would love to have a job as a professional runner, but I still need a lot of practice."
