Squash pair shine at Worlds
Robbie Maycock and Micah Franklin have advanced to the second round of the World Junior Squash Championships in Zurich, Switzerland.
Maycock, who was recently crowned the Under-19 Junior CASA champion in Bermuda, won his match against Colm Dolan of Ireland 9-1, 4-9, 9-0, 9-3, to book his place in the next round against a Finnish opponent.
Franklin also had a day to remember after defeating Italy's Loreno Colucci in straight sets 9-6, 9-4, 9-2. He will now go on to face a highly ranked Egyptian.
The day wasn't all excitement for Bermuda's travelling contingent as the Island's third representative, Noah Browne, bowed out at the first hurdle.
He was beaten by his Czech. Republic opponent in straight sets, 10-9, 9-2, 9-1.
Squash spokesman Roger Sherratt said: "These are very good results for the boys, including young Noah Browne, who is one of the youngest in the field. At 14, he is playing against Under-19 players from around the world so it will be a good learning curve for him.
"Robbie and Micah are two very talented squash players and will be competitive in any junior championships. None of the other Caribbean countries have won a match from my understanding so these results are absolutely fantastic."
