Bermuda is colder than London, Philadelphia, Vermont, Paris and Dublin

People in London and Burlington, Vermont were warmer than Bermudians yesterday.

Chilly conditions saw people shivering in their beds as the temperature dropped, coming close to the coldest ever recorded temperature.

A reading of 48 degrees Fahrenheit was recorded in the early hours, the Bermuda Weather Service said, compared with an all-time low of 44 degrees recorded in February, 1950.

It was also the coldest March 24 since 1967.

This meant that several areas around the world which are considered much colder than sunny Bermuda were actually warmer. The list includes Portland, Philadelphia, Baltimore in the US as well as London, Paris and Dublin in Europe.

Temperatures steadily grew throughout the day reaching 60 degrees by 5 p.m.

Meteorologist James Dodgson said the Island had been through the worst already: "Things will be getting better through the week and by the weekend we should be back to our normal March temperatures, which is approximately 68 degrees."

Hotter spot: London was warmer than Bermuda.
