A war of words has broken out between Lionel Cann and Jacobi Robinson on the eve of Cup Match.

The two skippers have raised the temperature ahead of tomorrow and Friday's classic with Cann labelling Somerset a one-man team who have zero chance of winning, and Robinson accusing St. George's of being arrogant and dull.

In a passionate outburst, St. George's captain Cann insisted that his team had no need to worry about defeat, and all their thoughts were on keeping the trophy.

"We absolutely cannot lose Cup Match," said Cann. "We're not even thinking about the possibility of Somerset beating us, they have zero chance."

And Cann also delivered an astonishing snub to Bermuda star Stephen Outerbridge, insisting that Janeiro Tucker is the only batsman in the Somerset line-up capable of winning the game for the challengers.

"Somerset's only chance rests with Janeiro," he said. "Stop Janeiro scoring runs and you stop Somerset. They have a few other batsmen who can chip in with 30s and 40s but Janeiro is their only match winner."

Robinson, meanwhile, believes that St. George's' over-confidence will prove their downfall.

"I feel St. George's have taken it (the game) for granted by carrying too many bats," he said.

"What happens with St. George's is that as long as they have got the cup they are playing for a draw," added Robinson. "They are never going to look to win, and I feel it is going to backfire on them this year."

The Somerset skipper also accused the holders of not playing in the spirit of the game and said their dull approach with a team stacked with 10 batsmen may come back to haunt them.

"It's not cricket going for a draw," he said. "This year we have a better team than St. George's."
