Government's US waiver assistance programme is about to commence
Cabinet has announced that Government's Waiver Assistance Programme will be available from Monday for Bermudians on the "stop list" who need help entering into the United States.
The Visa Waiver Assistance Programme was set up to help persons deemed ineligible to enter the US and to encourage Bermudians against behaviour that would land them on the list at all.
While a physical office will not be available until June, Government's race relations consultant Rolfe Commissiong has been tasked with heading up the programme and wants to get started right away.
"We are keen to start the work required and interested persons are encouraged to contact me directly so we can assist them," said Mr. Commissiong yesterday.
"Regular office hours will apply to the phone line but of course e-mail is received 24/7. Responses will be prompt and appointments scheduled so that people can be seen at their convenience."
In order to receive a waiver, persons must complete a Bermuda Police Certificate request form and present Police certification from any other jurisdiction they have resided in for more than six months in the past ten years. Persons must also fulfill the same requirements as those applying for a regular visa including a valid passport with six months remaining before expiration and a current passport photo.
They must also fill out a DS-160 Nonimmigrant Visa Application online and provide proof of Bermudian status. There is a $131 fee attached, which must be paid in cash. Applicants will also be interviewed.
l Interested persons are encouraged to contact Mr. Commissiong at 298-7192 or via e-mail at waiver@gov.bm to find out more about the Waiver Assistance Programme.
