Joell ready for close-up
The Multiple Exposure Photography Group is to open an exhibit of its work at TQ Atrium in the Walker Arcade tonight.
Work by Voorhees Joell is featured in the show. He began taking pictures years ago after he fell in love with a Minolta camera.
"At first, photography was just something to do to fill the extra time I had on my hands," he said.
"But once I started shooting and seeing the results that my lens captured I wanted more."
Today he shoots using a digital camera The photo content ranges "from waves to wings to a silent walk home," he said. "My inspiration comes from the beauty of nature and life that surrounds me. Everywhere I look there's a picture."
While most of the objects that he shot for this exhibit were in Bermuda one wasn't.
"'Going Home', was shot in Cognac, while my wife [Deborah Smith Joell] and I were vacationing in France," he said.
His work has previously exhibited at the Lighthouse Tea Room and at a Bermuda Society of Arts members' show. However he counts this exhibit as his first. The show opens to the public on April 12 and runs through May 7 on the upper level of the Walker Arcade at 12 Reid Street. The gallery is open weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
