Healy handed Windies call-up

Tom Healy will fly Bermuda's flag at the Punte del Este International seven-a-side rugby tournament in Uruguay after he was selected for the Rugby West Indies team.

Chairman of Rugby West Indies management committee, Denis Dwyer, announced the Windies side that will play teams from around the world in January next year.

Healy, who recently competed in the World Rugby Classic, will join 11 other players from across the Caribbean to make up the West Indies side.

The squad selected for the Punte del Este Tournament were chosen by the West Indies selectors from a short-list of 24 players who played in the North American and West Indies Rugby Association (NAWIRA) men's and women's Caribbean Championship held in the Bahamas last month.

Rugby West Indies will shortly name their team to participate in the Trinidad and Tobago Enthusiasts International Sevens Tournament to take place in Trinidad and Tobago next month with another Bermuda international, Jack Ellison, also in contention for the squad.

Both Renegades players, Healy and Ellison, starred for Bermuda who missed out on qualifying for a place in next year's Rugby Sevens World Cup in Dubai at the recent NAWIRA Sevens competition in Nassau, Bahamas last month.

Bermuda lost convincingly to the USA in the semi-final of the tournament and had to settle for a third place play-off against reigning champions Guyana.

The Caribbean side had six of the West Indies Sevens squad on their team and won emphatically 42-0.
