Public invited to Joint Select Committee on crime tomorrow
The public are invited to attend the first open Parliamentary Joint Select Committee meeting on crime tomorrow.
Committee Chairman Randy Horton, of the Progressive Labour Party, said the meeting will be held in the Senate Chambers at 10 a.m.
Politicians from all three political parties including the PLP, Bermuda Democratic Alliance and United Bermuda Party will be in attendance.
Mr. Horton said the meeting was a platform for people to discuss their ideas on the causes of violence and gun crime. The information would then be compiled into recommendations to be presented to Members of Parliament.
He said: "We want the meeting to be open. We want the public to know what is going on and in addition we want to encourage as many people as possible, those people who feel they can lend advice, to come and present to us or to send written submissions to the committee.
"It is a bipartisan approach in that we are there for the benefit of Bermuda. No matter what party you are associated with, we are there as a team for the betterment of the country."
The meetings will be taking place throughout this month, December and January — a full schedule will be available at a later date.
Alternatively people can email written submissions with their ideas to ctodd@gov.bm.
